Note: This feature is only available to customers using the Sim Golf product or those managing simulator bays. Please reach out to your account manager with questions.
The Sim Golf Handicap Service provides a native handicapping experience designed specifically for indoor golf facilities. This service allows you to manage player handicaps directly within the Golf Genius platform without needing to use external software.
Setting Up the Handicap Service
The setup is performed in the Handicap Settings tab. To enable the service for your facility or event, follow these directions:
Navigate to Handicap Settings:
Default Setting (Customer Center default for all future event/leagues): Navigate to Customer Settings > Default Settings > Handicap Settings.
Event/League Profile: Navigate to Event/League > Event/League Profile > Handicap Settings.
Scroll down to the section titled Handicap Services (as shown below).
Select the following:
How do you track handicaps?: Set this option to "Sim Golf Handicap Service."
The following configuration options will be displayed:
Handicap League ID: Follow the option below that best fits your needs (Note: To ensure consistency across handicaps, we recommend connecting all leagues at the facility to the same Handicap League ID.):
Connect to an Existing League Handicap: Enter a Handicap League ID to sync with an existing setup.
Create a New League Handicap: Leave the League ID blank to create a new league. By default, the Rolling Average method is selected.
Handicap Settings (Note: Only Administrators can adjust these settings. If you need to make a change, please contact support.):
Handicap Method: By default, the Rolling Average method is selected.
Handicap Mode: Select one of the following options:
18-hole Only
9-hole Only
Both 9-hole & 18-hole
Calculate handicap after "X" score(s) posted
Look back at most recent "X" score(s)
Drop the worst "X" score(s)
Drop the best "X" score(s)
Click to set automatic Handicap Index® updates: Select this option if you would like Handicap Indexes to update automatically (as shown below), and then define the following:
Automatically update Handicap Indexes in the Event Roster, "X" day(s) before: This option will typically be used when your rounds don't fall on a typical pattern.
Fill in the number of days to update before the round. For example, if you only want to update the indexes two days before the round, enter a 2.
Further, two additional options are available:
Each round: Use this option to update the Handicap Indexes before every round.
First round: Use this option only to update Handicap Indexes once and before the first round.
Automatically update Handicap Indexes in the Event Roster, every week on: "Day of the Week:" This option will typically be used if you update Handicap Indexes on the same day every week.
Select the day of the week you wish to have the indexes updated.
Click "Save" to apply the settings.
Managing Handicap History
Managers can review and manage player handicap history through the native interface below; players can view their own handicap history on the portal.
Manager View (Golfer Profile)
To view or manage a golfer's handicap, navigate to their Player Roster Profile and select the H.I. Summary/Sim Handicap tab (as shown below). This view is organized into a Summary Header, a Handicap History section, and a Past Rounds Summary.
Summary Header
Current Handicap: The value used to calculate the Playing Handicap or Sim Handicap. You can adjust it directly here; changes save with the rest of the profile. If this value differs from the one on record with the Handicap Server or Sim Golf Handicap Service, a warning notice appears.
Active Scores: The number of scores currently contributing to the handicap.
Handicap History
This section shows the current HDCP and the date it was last calculated, and lists the golfer's posted scores under two tabs, Active and Inactive.
Active: Active holds the scores currently counting toward the handicap under the Event/League's Look back, Drop the worst, and Drop the best settings (see Setting Up the Handicap Service above).
Inactive: Inactive holds the remaining scores on record. Each row shows Date, Course, Tee, Difficulty Index, Scratch Score, Score, Differential, and Holes. If a golfer has no scores on record, the section displays "No scores."
Select the info icon next to the current HDCP to see an inline explanation of that handicap calculation, sourced from the Handicap Server or Sim Golf Handicap Service (as shown below).
If a golfer has both a 9-hole and an 18-hole handicap on record, a switcher above the Handicap History section lets you choose which one to view (as shown below); each selection shows that hole type's own handicap and its own Active/Inactive scores. The switcher is hidden when only one hole type is on record.
Add a Score
To add a score that wasn't posted automatically, follow these directions:
Select + Add score above the Handicap History section.
Date: Enter the round date.
Course: Select from the Event/League's courses.
Tee: Select a tee for the chosen course.
Difficulty Index (Slope) and Scratch Score (Rating): These fill in automatically from the course and tee you selected, and can be adjusted manually if needed.
Score: Enter the score to post.
Holes: Select 18 or 9 (defaults to 18).
Click Save Scores to post the score.
Delete a Score
To remove a score, select the delete icon on that row and confirm the deletion (as shown below).
In either case, the score is removed from the Handicap Server or Sim Golf Handicap Service, and the handicap and score lists update immediately.
Past Rounds Summary
This section is available below Handicap History as a collapsible summary (as shown below). Each round listed there shows an editable index, which is saved along with the rest of the profile when you click Save.
Player View (Portals)
You can allow golfers to see their own history by adding the Handicap Summary page to your portal (as shown below). For more details on the Handicap Summary Page, Click Here.
Important Reminders for Staff
Avoid Mid-Season Changes: Any adjustments to these settings will trigger an update of all player handicaps. Do not change these settings while a league is in progress without consulting a manager.
