There are two ways to retrieve and update GA Handicaps from GA CONNECT:
Updating the entire Master Roster and propagating to events and leagues
Updating within specific events and leagues
In this article, we will discuss both options.
Propagate GA Handicaps from the Master Roster
You can retrieve GA Handicaps for your entire Master Roster by updating manually or setting up daily automatic updates. Click Here for details on how to allow your Master Roster to automatically update GA Handicaps daily. When doing so, you can then propagate the new GA Handicaps to any future events and leagues.

Automatically update GA Handicaps from the Master Roster
In addition to manually updating GA Handicaps within an Event/League, GA Handicaps can automatically sync from the Master Roster into an Event/League Roster on the day of a scheduled round. This requires automatic Master Roster updates to be enabled. For complete details on this option, Click Here.
Enabling GA Handicaps within an Event/League
The GA CONNECT Handicap Service must first be established as your Handicap Index Service Provider. Click Here for setup instructions.
Within your event/league, go to League/Event Menu > League/Event Profile > Handicap Settings > GA Handicap Service section, and verify GA CONNECT is selected in the first dropdown (as shown below).
If desired, choose one of the following automatic update options:
Check "Automatically update GA Handicaps from the Master Roster into Event/League Roster." Note: This update only occurs on the day of a scheduled round and requires automatic Master Roster updates to be enabled. For complete details on this option, Click Here.
Select "Automatically update GA Handicaps in the Event/League Roster" for more control over scheduling — before each round or on a specific day of the week, independent of Master Roster updates. For complete details on this option, Click Here.
Click "Save."
Updating GA Handicaps within an Event/League
Follow the directions below on how to manually update GA Handicaps:
Navigate to Golfers > Access GA CONNECT to Update GA Handicaps.
Select specific players or all players using the checkboxes. Additionally, you can use the search option to find players quickly.
Select the update method:
Current GA Handicap: Retrieve GA Handicaps as of the current date.
GA Handicap on a specific date: Retrieve GA Handicaps from a specific past date.
(Event/League Only) If you have multiple rounds, select the round you would like to update Handicap Indexes for. That round and all following rounds will be updated unless updated have been turned off for that round. For more details on turning off handicap updates for a specific round, Click Here.
Click "Update." The handicaps for the selected players will then be updated for the event or league (as shown below).
Status Update when Manually Updating Handicaps
Each GA Handicap can have one of six GA Handicap Statuses:
Unallocated: Assigned to a golfer who has no GA Handicap.
Normal: The default status, assigned when none of the other five statuses apply.
Frozen: Assigned to a golfer whose GA Handicap is not permitted to increase beyond a specific value for a stipulated period of time.
Provisional: Assigned when the golfer has 5 or more scores with a status of "No Score - Not Approved" among their 20 latest scores.
Suspended: Assigned to a golfer whose GA Handicap has been rendered completely inactive for a stipulated period of time.
Lapsed: Assigned to a golfer who is not a current member of a GA-affiliated body.
Additionally, the Status column will indicate whether each golfer's GA Handicap was successfully updated, with the before-and-after values shown in the GA Handicap. A red status with an error message displays if a golfer's GA Handicap Status is Unallocated, or if an error occurred (e.g., a missing or invalid Golf ID).
Successfully updated players will highlight in green. If a player highlights in yellow, the update was still successful, but the player's name does not exactly match between Golf Genius and GA CONNECT — hover over the "i" button to see the inconsistency.
Under the Golfers Menu, you can view the last time Handicaps were updated by clicking on the "i" icon.
Automatic Re-Fill for Divisions/Flights
If you run a weekly league and meet the following parameters, you can use the automatic re-fill feature:
Created divisions/flights using Playing Handicap or GA Handicap.
Re-fill the divisions/flights after every GA Handicap update.
