Coordinating tee times or plans with other golfers at the club often means digging up a phone number or email address. If Club App Chat is enabled for your account, golfers can send direct messages and create group conversations with other golfers at the club, all from within the Club App they already use.
In this article, we will discuss:
Opening Chat
The Messages List
Starting a New Conversation
The Conversation Screen
Managing a Group Chat
Messaging a Golfer Who Hasn't Joined the Club App
Welcome Message
Note: Only golfers on the Master Roster who log in with an email address and password can use Chat.
Opening Chat
Golfers open Chat from an orange chat bubble in the corner of the Club App home screen (as shown below). When a golfer has unread messages, a badge on the bubble shows the number of unread conversations.
Tapping the bubble opens the Messages screen, described below.
The Messages List
The Messages screen lists every conversation the golfer is part of, with unread conversations listed first and the most recent activity at the top. From this screen, golfers can:
Tap Unread to show only conversations with unread messages
Use the search bar to find a conversation by name
Tap the plus button to start a new conversation
Tap any conversation to open it
The Messages screen looks like this (as shown below).
Golfers can also swipe left on a conversation to remove it from their own list. Removing a conversation this way only affects that golfer's list; if a new message arrives afterward, the conversation reappears.
Starting a New Conversation
Tapping the plus button on the Messages screen gives the golfer two options: New chat, to message one other golfer directly, or New group, to start a conversation with multiple golfers.
Sending a Direct Message
Selecting New chat shows a searchable list of every golfer eligible to use Chat. If the golfer belongs to more than one club, they can filter the list to a specific club. Selecting a name and tapping Next opens a direct conversation with that golfer.
Creating a Group Chat
Selecting New group shows the same searchable list, but golfers can select multiple names before tapping Next. On the following screen, the golfer can optionally name the group, then tap Create to start the conversation. If no name is given, the group displays the names of its members instead.
Note: Only text messages are supported in Chat.
The Conversation Screen
Once a conversation is open, golfers can type and send messages, which appear along with a timestamp and a read receipt showing whether the message has been delivered and read. In a group conversation, each message also shows the name of the golfer who sent it (as shown below).
Golfers receive a push notification when they get a new message while the Club App is closed or in the background, unless they are already viewing that conversation. Tapping a notification opens the related conversation directly.
Managing a Group Chat
Any member of a group conversation, not just the golfer who created it, can rename the group or update who is included.
Renaming a Group
Tapping the pencil icon in a group conversation's header opens a Rename Group window. Entering a new name and tapping Save updates the group name for all members, and a message is posted in the conversation letting everyone know the group was renamed.
Adding or Removing Members
Tapping the group's name and avatar at the top of the conversation opens the Group Info screen, which lists all current members. Tapping Edit allows a member to add other golfers to the group or remove existing members; a message is posted in the conversation each time membership changes. A golfer can also remove themselves from a group at any time, which returns them to the Messages screen.
Messaging a Golfer Who Hasn't Joined the Club App
If a golfer starts a direct message or adds someone to a group who has never logged into the Club App, that person is sent an email letting them know they have a message waiting. The conversation opens normally, but the message field stays disabled until the invited golfer logs in. Once they do, the conversation updates automatically and messaging becomes available.
